Taiwan Computer Emergency Response Team / Coordination Center (TWCERT/CC) participated in the “APCERT Cyber Drill 2026” held on 26 August 2026. The annual exercise, organized by the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT), aimed to validate Taiwan’s capability to respond to cybersecurity incidents involving the compromise and malicious use of Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) solutions.

The theme of this year’s APCERT Drill was “Incident Response: RMM-related Compromise.” The exercise reflected real-world cybersecurity threats posed by the malicious use of RMM solutions, which are widely used in enterprise environments. Participating teams reviewed and tested their incident response procedures through simulated scenarios involving SQL injection, Kerberoasting, and other attack techniques.

The exercise provided participating teams with an opportunity to review and strengthen their response procedures against evolving RMM-related threats, emphasizing the importance of proactive preparedness in an era of rapidly advancing technologies.

During the drill, TWCERT/CC conducted incident investigations and forensic analysis based on the simulated scenarios, assessed the attack paths and associated malicious activities affecting compromised systems, and simulated the provision of incident response and technical assistance to affected organizations. By participating in this large-scale international cybersecurity exercise, TWCERT/CC further enhanced its incident analysis and cross-organizational coordination capabilities while strengthening cybersecurity collaboration and international cooperation with CERTs and CSIRTs across the Asia-Pacific region.

The drill also supported APCERT’s vision to “Build a safe, resilient and reliable cyberspace across the Asia-Pacific region through global collaboration,” enabling participating teams to practice their procedures in a safe and controlled environment.

A total of 23 CSIRTs from 18 APCERT economies—Australia, Bhutan, the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vanuatu—participated in the drill. In addition, two CSIRTs from two economies affiliated with OIC-CERT and AfricaCERT participated as external parties.
